Archery
One of the earliest weapons, the sport which
tests skill with a bow
and arrow
is known as archery. The arrow consists of a slender shaft,
usually pointed at one end
and
feathered at the other. The bow is made of a flexible, curved strip of
strong, pliable
material
such as wood or metal. Connecting the two ends of the strip so that they
bend, is a
tightly drawn
cord. By using the arrow to stretch the cord, the arrow can be released at
great speeds with
accuracy and force. The bow and arrow was also the weapon of choice for
the
ancient god of
love: the Roman's Cupid, and the Greek's Eros.
