Unfortunately, since much of this book is unclear, Taoism has come to embody many other ideas. Approximately one hundred years after the Tao-Teh-King was written magic and sorcery were introduced to this philosophy. Many Taoists believed in evil spirits and became dependent on mighty priests and magicians to claim power over them.
