Presbyterian 2
Geographically the presbyterian
churches are those Calvinist churches which arose in the British Isles, while the continental part
came to be known as Reformed. In matters of church government, all Presbyterian churches are part of
the Reformed or Calvinist tradition , but not all Reformed churches are Presbyterian. This separation
arises with the specific form of government which oversees the Presbyterian church. Presbyterian
specifically refers to a type of church government, which includes both pastors and layleaders.
Layleaders are also commonly known as elders or presbyters, from which the name of this denomination
arises. Built in 1855, Archer Presbyterian Church, is found in the heart of Philadelphia.
