Orthodox 2
Immigrants from these various places settled in North America and have established the
Orthodox Church. The Orthodox Church not only serves as a religious foundation for immigrant
communities but has come to serve as a cultural centre as well. In this way the Orthodox Church has
become a way for the immigrants to preserve their heritage. Like the Roman Catholic Church, the
Orthodox Church has a clerical hierarchy, including Archbishops and Bishops. The religious observances
tend to be solemn and elaborate. Use of ancient liturgy, preserved in their original languages are
features of the services. Differences in calculating movable feast dates, including Easter, may occur
on different dates in the Orthodox church than the Western church. This is St.Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Hamilton, Canada.
