Holiness
In the late 1800s, during a religious revival which primarily occurred within the Methodist church, the
Holiness Church emerged.
The Holiness Church rejected the bureaucracy of established denominations and placed very strong emphasis on the
teachings of Methodist founder John Wesley.
Around the turn of the 20th Century the gifts of the Spirit were experienced in the most intense Holiness congregations.
From this event arose the Pentecostal Churches.
The Holiness Church is considerably more conservative than the Pentecostal Church.
