The Greek Orthodox church is one of the most important churches in the Eastern Orthodox community. This autocephalous (ecclesiastically independent) church is the state church of Greece. Within the Greek Orthodox church, supreme authority is given to the archbishop and synod. The synod is composed of all the bishops. This synod deals with all general church questions.
