Coptic 2
The members belonging to this church began to distinguish themselves as the Coptic Orthodox church in the 19th and 20th
Centuries, to avoid confusion between those Coptics who had converted to Roman Catholicism and from those who were
Eastern Orthodox.
Holding fast to their Egyptian heritage, Arabic is the key language spoken in the Coptic Orthodox services.
Otherwise the Coptic language is used for hymns, Biblical readings and liturgies.
The Coptic church is believed to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, Christian church in the world.
