Christianity was first introduced in Bulgaria in 864AD. The Orthodox church arose within Bulgaria through a break with Rome in 1054AD. The Orthodox church in Bulgaria was administered by the patriarch of Constantinople through a Greek clergy, as the Bulgarians were under Turkish rule.
