Sacrifice 2
Sacrifice made to the gods of the underworld, such as Hades, were performed in the evening.
The animals chosen were usually black and would be completely burned in a pit.
Cultic activities could also include prayer, washing, processions, races and other contests.
One contest which has survived the passage of time is the Olympics.
Every four years the Greeks observed a festival to Zeus in the Western Peloponnese,
which included Olympic games. This is the entranceway to the original Olympic Stadium in Olympia.
This began in 776BC!
