The Spiritism in South America has its roots in the religious beliefs of
southern Nigeria. In the 16th Century when the African slave trade was initiated their beliefs
spread to distant lands. African slaves brought to Brazil by the Portuguese carried their myths and
religious beliefs with them. These Africans had a polytheistic religion. Like many pagan religions
they believed that there was a Supreme Being, and they called this god Orolum. This is an
