HELP INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS FEEDBACK ATG North American Natives
TURTLE MASK There are a wide variety of beliefs held by the Indians which live north of Mexico. From the coastal Indians to the prairie Indians their lives were vastly different and their beliefs were equally diverse. The most common characteristic which binds the various religious beliefs of the North American Indians are its close relation to the world of nature. The North American Indian religion is polytheistic, believing in many gods, yet the source of the mythology is found in the environment from which the Indians survive. A creation myth explained by the shell of a turtle or a spirit god in the form of a coyote. These are examples of the adaptation of the natural environment to the Indian belief. [BM] {EC}
