Saxons, Angles and Jutes
The Saxon Invaders along with their kinsmen, the Angles and the Jutes, were the least
romanized (and the least civilized) of the Germanic tribes. The land that attracted the
wild, pagan Saxons was Britain. The native people of Britain were Celts that called
themselves Britons. They were so mildly affected by the Roman empire that they still
spoke their own languages. Little is known about the actual Anglo-Saxon invasion of
Britain but it is known that the first invasions began in 449AD.
