During the 20th century Sweden has pursued a typical Scandinavian economy based on high taxes, social welfare, free enterprise & public ownership of utilities. During the 1970's Sweden's economy spiralled downward. Attempts have been made to reduce taxes & limit welfare programs. The Social Democrats have been the primary power in Swedish politics.
