Recent Swaziland

In 1968 Swaziland gained its independence as a constitutional monarchy. The country was led by King Sobhuza II aided by a council of ministers. When the king died in 1982 his 18 year-old son took the throne under the name of King Mswati. In 1986 South African military forces swept through Swaziland searching for African National Congress activists. Swaziland remains cooperative yet guarded with neighboring South Africa & Mozambique.
