The large island of St. Vincent is one of the poorest countries in the West Indies. The already poor economy of this nation has been weakened through several natural disasters. In 1979 a volcano erupted & two hurricanes hit the island in 1980 & 1986. The country is presently run by Prime Minister James Mitchell of the New Democratic party. [BM] {UA}
