From 1966 until 1986 the Philippines were led by the corrupt presidency of Ferdinand Marcos & his wife Imelda. As Marcos fled the country in 1986 Mrs. Aquino, the wife of a murdered political figure, took over the presidency. The economy remained unstable throughout her leadership. Presently Fidel Ramos is president. Fidel has made "national reconciliation" his highest priority. [BM] {UA}
