During the 1800's Ireland had been united with England. However, in 1921 Ireland gained independence. There is a great separation, both religious & political, between northern & southern Ireland. For over 25 years the IRA has been trying to expel the British from Northern Ireland. Fighting & terrorism has at times been fierce.
