Recent Ghana

In 1966 Nkrumah was ousted and the country was run by civilian governments. In 1981 Lt. Rawlings gained control in a coup and has had power ever since. Ghana has experienced hard economic conditions throughout the 1970's and 80's. In 1989 Ghana had a 6% economic growth rate and continues a struggling recovery in the '90's.
