Comoros was overthrown by
foreign mercenaries in 1975.
In 1978 President Ahmed Abdallah Abdeeremane returned to power
and developed
the county's first constitution.
After his assassination in 1989, the French
government stepped in and the
first democratic elections were held in 1992.
