With the emergence of terrorism and drug trafficking in the 1960's and 1970's the struggles between the Liberals and Conservatives lost importance. During the 1980's many government officials were murdered by narco-terrorists. In 1990 Liberal leader, Pizano, became president pledging to continue the fight against drugs despite the murder of 4 presidential candidates. [BM] {UA}
