Australopithecus

The extinct Primate genus Australopithecus was the first "ape" in the habit of walking upright. Four species of varying skeletal weights and cranium volumes are known: afarensis, africanus, robustus and boisei, evolving between 2 and 4 million years ago in Southern Africa. Australopithecus africanus' brain was only 450ml. A typical lifespan based on tooth wear was around 20 years old. [JD] {EL} {BH}
