Australopithecus
The extinct Primate genus
Australopithecus was the first "ape" in the habit of walking upright.
Four species of
varying skeletal weights and cranium volumes are known:
afarensis, africanus, robustus and
boisei,
evolving between 2 and 4 million years ago in Southern Africa.
Australopithecus
africanus' brain was only 450ml.
A typical lifespan based on tooth wear was around 20 years
old.
