Modern Tonga

Despite actions to ensure independence for Tonga, the kingdom became a British protectorate in 1900. The British dissolved their protectorate in 1970, & Tonga became an independent kingdom under the British Commonwealth. In 1965 King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV came into power & remains on the throne to this day. [BM] {UA}
