During the 17th, 18th & 19th centuries Russia continued to extend its boundaries through military conquest. The czars eventually faded & a moderate socialist group came into power in 1917. Famous socialist leaders such as Lenin & Stalin would control Russia & rule the largest & most powerful Communist state. Over 70 years the nation stagnated & the regime suppressed the population. In 1985 Mikhail Gorbachev came into power, changing the course of history. [BM] {UA}
