Modern Ghana
In 1860 the slave
trade ceased and Ghana became a colony in the British Empire in 1886.
In 1946 Britain gave
Ghana a new constitution, allowing the Ghanaians control
of their own legislature.
The first
president of the Republic of Ghana was Nkrumah. He would eventually
demand absolute
authority. This ornate memorial tomb dedicated to Kwame Nkrumeh is found in
Ghana.
