Modern Gabon
In 1839 France
stepped in to protect the peoples of Gabon from the slave
trade. By 1849 the first prominent
European settlement was established in
Gabon by freed slaves; this town was named
Libreville.
In 1910 the French established Gabon as part of French Equatorial Africa. MORE!
