Modern Dominica
In 1763 the French
assigned Dominica to Great Britain.
Under British rule Dominica joined the Leeward and
Windward groups, in
1833 and 1940 respectively.
In 1967 Dominica became a self governing
state with ties to Great Britain,
gaining full independence in 1978.
