Bahrain has been a big commercial centre for importing & re-exporting goods between Arabia & India since the second millenium. At the end of the 18th Century, Bahrain became an Arab Sheikhdom. In 1861, it became a British protectorate & by 1971, an independent province. The economy includes oil refining, aluminum smelting, international banking & shipping. {UA}
