Modern Albania
In 1912, after the First
Balkan War, with the help of Austria-Hungary & Italy, Albania gained independence.
However,
by the end of WWI, Albania was left almost in anarchy,
until 1924 when, with the help of
Yugoslavia, a tribal chief, Ahmed Zogu, became President.
Communist forces seized control of
the government in 1944, led by Enver Hoxha.
In 1946, Albania became a socialist republic.
