History of Western Samoa

There are 9 islands which compose the Polynesian island group of Samoa. These islands were partitioned in 1899 between Germany and the United States. Prior to the partitian, the US had established a naval base on Tutuila in 1878, & the Germans had created a colony on the westerly islands in 1894. The German-held islands were occupied by New Zealand troops in 1914. [BM] {UA}
