Around 1000AD ethnic Thai migrated from China to establish small states in the region which is now Thailand. The most notable kingdom was the kingdom of Sukhorthai. Strong Indian influence introduced Buddhism in the region. Today Buddhism remains the dominant religion of the Thai people. Around 1350 the united kingdom of Siam was established. Beginning in the 16th century Siam was alive with both European & Portuguese traders & missionaries. [BM] {UA}
