Medieval Niger

Niger is a dry & arid land. Most people from Niger live along a thin strip of fertile land edging the Niger River. During medieval times much of Niger was incorporated into large empires which were found in Mali, Chad & Nigeria. During the 18th century the Tuaregs & Hausa peoples united to fight the Fulani empire. In the 19th century explorers from Britain & France entered Niger in hope of discovering the source of the Niger River. [BM] {UA}
