Medieval Kuwait

From the 8th century to late in the 16th century Kuwait was part of the Abbisid empire. Late in the 16th century (until the 19th century) Kuwait was ruled by the Ottoman Empire. By the year 1899 Kuwait became a British protectorate. The British protectorate ended in 1961 when Kuwait received independence. At the time of independence Kuwait was one of the wealthiest regions in the Middle East through the discovery of oil shortly after WWII. [BM] {UA}
