Medieval Jamaica
The Arawaks once lived on
the island of Jamaica. This group of natives were wiped out with the arrival of Christopher
Columbus in
1494. The Spanish ruled Jamaica until 1655 when the British took control.
Throughout the 18th century Jamaica was a major producer of
sugar & became one of the most
heavily used slave markets in the world.
