Honduras was once home to the Mayan civilization and to the Lenca Indians. These ancient Mayan ruins are found in Copan, Honduras. In the 1570's the Spanish entered the region when silver was discovered. Honduras was to become a province of Spain despite British control over the Caibbean coast in the late 1700's. [BM] {UA}
