Japanese Drama
Few details are available on
the daily lives of the Japanese.
It is known that Noh performances were the most revered art
form in ancient Japan. Noh
performances combined dance,
music and mime. Performances often
centred on a distressed spirit who returns to the world to
repent deeds committed
during a
former existence. The mask shown here was worn during performances and represents the
face
of a young woman.
