Ancient Greece
There were two questions left
unanswered: who is superior and who decides? Of course, the rich and
well-connected seemed
to be superior and acted so. In time the aristocracy came to be chosen only
from the ranks
of the upper class, who were not necessarily the finest minds in society. It is
natural that
a father would want his son to follow in his footsteps even though that son may not
have the
common sense or natural ability for the job. Such misplaced people were more concerned
with
their own appearance and status than the fate of the people they were supposed to govern.
