Women were not allowed to assume the position of pharaoh. In order to make the change from one pharaoh to another smooth, the heir would often be invited to rule with the reigning pharaoh. This monarchy system lasted until the Greeks invaded Egypt during the last 1000 years BC. In this photograph the Khufu Pyramid can be seen with the Queens' Pyramids in the foreground. [JG] {AE}
