The Franks
(c.350-507AD)
The Frankish tribes had
geographic good fortune. They
had been established in Belgium as Roman allies since the
middle of the 4th Century.
Unlike the other Barbarian groups that started fresh in a new
land, the Franks merely
expanded in many small scale advances. The Franks were cautious and
their progress was
slow and led by undistinguished leaders. None would have known that the
Franks would
eventually make up the most important Germanic realm--a realm that would
eventually be
led by great King Clovis to defeat even the Visigoths in 507AD.
