Ancient Iran

Persia, found in western Asia was established and ruled by great empires. In 549 BC Cyrus the Great established the Persian empire. The Persian Sassanian empire, established in AD 226 became the greatest eastern rival of the powerful Roman empire. The leading religion, Zoroastrainism, was replaced by Shia Muslim culture when the Arabs invaded.
