Ancient Ecuador
The
territory which is now known as Ecuador was ruled by the Inca empire. In this photograph is
a
partially rebuilt Incan fortress.
When the Spanish explorers arrived there was violent
tension between the
chief of the Incas, Atahualpa, and his half brother, Huascar. With
this
unrest it was easy for the Spanish to break apart the Native
political
structure.
