Ancient Algeria
In 1200BC, The
Phoenicians founded trading centres along the Mediterranean Coast.
These centres were taken
over by the Romans around 200BC.
Berber chief Masinissa formed the Kingdom of Numidia in the
north until 46BC when Romans seized control,
building fortresses (shown here in ruins) to
guard against the displaced peoples.
