Uranus
Uranus was detected in 1781 by Sir William Herschel, who originally thought it was a comet.
Uranus is the seventh planet in order of distance from the sun.
Its period of revolution is slightly more than 84 years, and it has a diameter of
6,700km. The mass of Uranus is approximately 8.684 x 1025 kg.
It appears as a small greenish or bluish disk in earth-based telescopes because
methane in its atmosphere absorbs the other colours, mostly red.
Uranus has five major moons; Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania, and Oberon (in order of
their distance from the planet).
