Pluto is very small compared to the other planets, and also the furthest planet away from
Pluto has methane ice or snow on its surface and an atmosphere consisting of
mostly methane gas. Therefore, its colour is slightly reddish.
Pluto's mass is approximately 1.2 x 1022 kg. Its orbit is elliptical and its
period of revolution is about 248 years.
Observations show that Pluto's moon, Charon, is approxiamtely half the size of Pluto,
making Pluto and Charon closer in size than any other planet and moon in the solar system.
Because of this, it is sometimes referred to as a double planet.
