Cosmology

Cosmology is the area of science that looks at the theory of the structure and evolution of the entire physical universe.
Since the universe is uniformly expanding, it can be determined that the universe must have been more compressed, until it was at quite a high density 15 billion or so years ago. Most ideas about the origin of the universe say that there was a big bang that started the expansion. The first matter could have formed as a change in the nothingness of space.
One possiblity is that the universe is open, meaning that it will continue to expand forever. Another possibility is that the universe will eventually stop expanding, and begin to contract. [VH] {SR} {EP}
