Hail
Sorry, No Picture! Hail is balls of ice that fall from cumulonimbus clouds, which have strong upward and downward currents of air moving within them.
Hail is often destructive. They have been responsible for devastating crop damage as well as injury to people and possessions. [AM] {GC} {WW}
Hailstones grow as horizontal winds bump rain and snow pellets within a cloud. Hailstones may be millimetres or centimetres wide, depending on the number of times the hailstone has been coated with ice. [VH]{WC}
