Rainbow

RAINBOW A rainbow is an arch of light in the air showing all colours in their order. The arch becomes visible because of drops of water in the air and light hitting those drops at just the right angle. [AM] {GC} {WW}
Therefore, for a rainbow to occur, there needs to be bright sunshine and rain occurring at the same time.
Light energy from the Sun is known as visible, or white, light and is actually made up of several colours. Visible light enters a raindrop, is refracted, and splits into many colours, and those colours are reflected within the raindrop. Finally, the colours are refracted again when they leave the raindrop.
The shape of a rainbow is due to the way that light enters the raindrops and is refracted at certain angles.
