Ice Storm
When precipitation falls at or near the freezing point it
accumulates on roads,
trees, houses, and other surfaces as ice. A little ice
storm produces slick roads and
sidewalks, and destroys crops. A big ice
storm, like the one that occurred east of the Great
Lakes in 1998, can
cripple electricity and transportation systems, destroy houses and cars,
and
send whole communities into a state of emergency.
