Flood
Flooding occurs when there is more rain than can be absorbed by the
soil and
vegetation. Many rivers and wetlands flood naturally, forming areas
called the flood plain.
Coastal areas are occasionally flooded by unusually
high tides. A flood that comes with
little or no advance warning is called a
flash flood. These often recede as quickly as they
came.
