For centuries woolen cloth has been woven in
the Hebrides. Initially all the processes of yarn construction, dyeing,
weaving and finishing were done by the weaver and his family. Traditionally
the men raised and tended the sheep and did the weaving. The women spun,
dyed and finished the yarns and cloth.
Today, yarn spinning and dyeing, plus cloth finishing are done in local mills using modern techniques.
