Scotland - The Scottish Tartan
Traditional Scottish tartan is a fabric woven in the twill weave structure
with specified colour stripe order in the warp and weft. Since the 11th
century tartan cloth has been used to identify geographical districts in
Scotland. When the clan structure (extended family groups) developed,
tartans where woven for each clan.
